Grace for the Lonely Heart

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18
Loneliness doesn’t always look like emptiness. Sometimes it shows up in full rooms. In scrolling silence. In the quiet ache of wanting to be seen or understood.
Scripture doesn’t shy away from the ache of the human heart. Psalm 34:18 offers no conditions, no shame—just presence. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.” Not far away. Not indifferent. Close.
We’re not told to fix our loneliness. We’re reminded that even in it, especially in it, we are not abandoned. God comes near to the quiet places. He draws close to the ache. And He stays.
Loneliness is not a failure of faith. It’s a tender place where grace can pour in slowly, gently, fully.
Grace Notes
There have been quiet days this month where I’ve felt the ache of distance—between hearts, places, even prayers. But I’ve also felt God near. Not loud. Not rushed. Just... near.
And that’s made all the difference.
